The Dead Sea, at 1,312 feet below
sea level the lowest point on earth, lies in the Jordan Valley.
Along with the fertile coastal plains beside the
Mediterranean Sea
and two rugged ranges of desert mountains, the valley is one of
Jordan's distinguishing geographical features. Dead Sea mineral water has the property of healing pain and
suffering caused by arthritis, rheumatism, psoriasis, eczema,
stress, headache and foot-ache, while nourishing and softening the
skin. Enjoy year-round sun and mineral rich mud-packs at the lowest
spot on earth. On the site there are several hotels equipped with
mud treatment needs.
The Dead Sea has a historical and spiritual legacy of its own. It
is
believed to be the site of five biblical cities: Sodom, Gomorrah,
Admah, Zebouin and Zoar. Today, its Eastern Shore is sparsely
populated and serenely quiet. With much of the landscape virtually
unchanged since ancient times, this is a favorite spot for a holiday
drive. Spend the day sunbathing, swimming or dining. If you would
like a more leisurely stay, spend the night at a comfortable hotel
that looks across the sea to the western banks and up the Moab hills
directly behind. Relax, and read a book on the gently lapping
waters-with density of 4 times of the other seas. Treat yourself to
a soothing massage or try the well-known healing powers of minerals
from the sea's muddy floor.
The Dead Sea houses a hotel complex that includes a therapeutic
clinic, bathing facilities, a sports complex and a restaurant.
Several new hotels and resorts are under construction.
